Adam Davis, who has been Chazzan (Cantor) of the Linksfield Senderwood Hebrew Congregation
in Johannesburg South Africa for five years, was inspired to pursue this
career some eight years ago in what he describes as a super-natural progression
of being a singer and becoming more observant. "I had been singing since childhood," he says. "At 13 I played Joseph in a school play and by winning Richard Loring's Joseph 2000 competition I had the opportunity of singing with the main production company at the Civic Theatre in front of 1200 people - which was incredibly inspiring. Adam began singing in the Sandton Shul Choir for many years, which developed his love for singing shul music and thereby inspired his increase in learning and observance. Adam has studied under Cantors Nathan Gluck, at Yeshiva University School of Music in New York under Chazzan Malovany, with Rabbi-Chazzan Benzion Volpo in Johannesburg, with Alexander Izbitser in New York. He had studied voice with Eugenie Chopin for many years and continues to do so." He is also a business manager at a company administrating vehicle warranties, is currently working on a new album. Adam is married and lives in Johannesburg with his wife and children. |
